Colin Cohran: Matter and Spirit

Saturday, November 2nd, 2013

WHO: Gebert Contemporary, 558 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501, 505-992-1100

WHAT: Colin Cochran: Matter and Spirit

WHERE: 558 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico. 87501

WHEN: Reception for the artist: Friday, November 29, 2 to 4pm

EXHIBITION DATE: November 29 through January 4, 2014

Gebert Contemporary will close 2013 with a solo feature of the new paintings of Colin Cochran. Entitled Matter and Spirit, the exhibition will feature approximately 15 paintings. Cochran continues to explore nature with lively images of laughing gulls and feisty hens, as well as lone ponderosas and the beckoning sea. He has always embraced a fearlessness when it comes to his choice of medium. The viewer will again see the use of gessoed felt and clayboard panel. And, of course, Cochran’s signature use of oil over mixed media which activates and enlivens the surface. These intimately-scaled paintings are enchanting. They capture both the humor and pathos of life.

Covington Jordan

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

WHO:          Gebert Contemporary, 558 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM 87501, 505-992-1100

WHAT:         Covington Jordan: Fable

WHERE:      Gebert Contemporary, 558 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM 87501

WHEN:         Reception for the artist:  Friday, May 24, 5 to 7pm

Exhibition Date:  May 24 through July 1, 2013

Gebert Contemporary is delighted to announce the second exhibition of the paintings of Covington Jordan.  The artist’s current body of work—Fable–continues to explore themes of truth and perception.  Engaging imagery that is both commonplace but open to multiple meanings, these fifteen paintings beg for measured contemplation.  Jordan’s use of burlap and other rugged material presents a visual contrast with the lonely sensitivity of the subject matter.  Depictions of wolves, bouquets of flowers, even the religious imagery of the cross, offer themselves for an emotional scrutiny that compels the viewer to question accepted notions and beliefs.  Using language and stark visual elements, Jordan layers both materials and meaning in a visually beautiful and emotionally challenging group of paintings.

Cov Jordan was born in Arizona and has lived in Santa Fe for the last fifteen years.  Entirely self-taught, Jordan began painting in earnest only five years ago.  His work is in private collections across the country.
